REAL TIME CONTINUOUS MEASUREMENT |
 |
 |
 |
| |
Above, actual recording of % H2O in
ethanol. Time is running to the left -- As the sieve saturates with
water, the percent of water in the ethanol increases, as a new sieve is
put on-line the percent of water decreases and bottoms out at 0.42%. The
recording above shows 4 sieve cycles. There are many benefits that can
be realized, by measuring the amount of water in 200 proof ethanol. Many
of those benefits are tied to the individual operation of an ethanol
plant such as, energy utilization, molecular sieve control, sampling
procedures, quality control and are difficult to quantify in a
justification calculation. However, there is one universal parameter
that can be measured easily and is the same no matter where and who
operates the ethanol plant and crosses all unique plant operational
procedures -- WATER. |

FINANCIAL JUSTIFICATION/PAYBACK: |
 |
Assume that your plant is shipping
product at 0.40% water now. If you can ship at 0.75% your payback will
be as follows: Assume ethanol at $1.35 a gallon (which is on the low
end) and your plant produces 40 million gallons per year. That means,
you can sell an additional 140,000 (rough calculation) gallons of fuel
grade Ethanol, within specifications per year, at $1.35 per gallon,
that’s $189,000 in revenue per year. Based on these assumptions, as a
rule of thumb, for every 0.1% closer to the 0.80% specification that you
ship, this translates into $54,000 of revenue, the cost of
a Chino gauge is about half that. |

ACCURACY OF WATER IN ETHANOL
MEASUREMENT |
 |
Chino guarantees that the unit will
measure and report the moisture measurement within its specifications.
Over a span of 0.30 – 0.80% water in ethanol -- accuracy will be 1.5% of
span or
better (±0.01% at 0.80% water). Display repeatability will be ±0.01% of
water content. IR is an indirect measurement of water content and the
performance of the measurement can be no
better than the accuracy, repeatability and linearity of the reference
instrument used to develop the correlation. |
